What that means in practice

The tours listed here are sold by Viator and GetYourGuide. When you follow a link from one of these pages and go on to book, the platform pays us a share of its own commission. You pay the same fare either way; the price on the booking page is the operator's price, not a marked-up one.

What we are not

We are not a tour operator or a ticket office. We do not run any of these tours, employ any of these guides or hold your booking. Your contract is with the operator, through the platform.

We have no connection with any winery, distillery, sanctuary or visitor centre in the Yarra Valley, or with any of the businesses these tours stop at.

How tours get listed

Operators cannot pay for placement, position or a badge. The badges are arithmetic: the best seller is the tour with the most reviews, the top-rated tour carries the highest rating across a substantial number of reviews, and the best value is the cheapest fare. Where one operator sells a similar tour on more than one platform or as more than one listing, both can appear, because both are separately bookable.

The featured tours at the top of the homepage are three different ways into the valley — the most-booked wine, beer and chocolate day from Flinders Street, a half day at three wineries from the Arts Centre or Lilydale, and a late-starting Chandon and kangaroo day from Federation Square — and each starts somewhere different.

Prices, ratings and how current they are

Prices, star ratings and review counts belong to the operators and were read from their own listings on 16 September 2026. They move, and the figure at checkout is the one that counts. Every fare is quoted in US dollars, per person, because that is how the listings were captured; nothing is converted at an exchange rate. Where a page gives a lunch cost or a pickup fee in Australian dollars, that is the operator's own figure.

Where we state a fact about a place, it comes from that place's own website or the body that runs it: Wine Yarra Valley and Wine Australia for the region, yering.com, chandon.com, yvci.com.au and fourpillarsgin.com for the stops, zoo.org.au for Healesville Sanctuary, Parks Victoria and Yarra Ranges Council for the redwoods and the rail trail, the Bureau of Meteorology's Coldstream station for the weather, and vic.gov.au for the drinking age. Where a figure comes from an operator, such as a lunch cost or a group size, the page says so.

What we deliberately do not publish

• Train journey times on the Lilydale line, and bus routes other than the 685, until they are read on the public transport operator's own pages. Bus 685 appears because Zoos Victoria names it in its own directions to Healesville Sanctuary.
• Opening hours for Balgownie Estate, Payten & Jones and Yering Farm Wines, whose own sites did not load for us. Check with each winery before you visit.
• Tasting prices at Chandon and Four Pillars, and Four Pillars' founding year, which neither publishes on its visitor pages.
• The length of Black Spur Drive, which the sources we read disagree on, and festival dates, which we have found only on third-party listings.
• Opening hours and a postcode for the Warburton Waterwheel Visitor Information Centre, which the regional tourism board's page does not give.
• A guaranteed kangaroo sighting. The tour with a dusk wildlife stop says sightings are common and wildlife is never guaranteed, and so do we.
